Lewis E. Besserud Obituary

Funeral services for Lewis Besserud of Roseau will be held on Wednesday, September,1  2021 at 11 AM at Rose Free Lutheran Church in Roseau.  A visitation will be on Tuesday evening from 5-7 PM with a 7:00 prayer service at Helgeson Funeral Home in Roseau.  Interment will be at the Moe-Rose Cemetery.  Memorials are preferred to the Moe-Rose Cemetery or the 4-Seasons Senior Center.  Services will be recorded and posted below.

Lewis Edward Besserud passed away on August 25, 2021 at the LifeCare Roseau Manor at the age of 92, with Arlene at his side.

Lewis was born on November 4, 1928 on the home farm in Roseau to Albert and Anna (Glennen) Besserud.  Lewie attended Oak Hill District 5 Country School and attended Roseau High School.  He married Lenore Hetteen and had four children, Gary, Cindy, JoAnne and Carson.  He moved to Chicago, IL in 1955 in search of work. He started as a concrete laborer and later for a large plumbing company, where he worked his way up from Laborer to a Foreman and then to a Superintendent.  He supervised many employees and was well respected for his strong work ethic and his ability to manage people.

He married Arlene Hedlund Brandt at a country church in Menahga, MN.  In 1995, they moved from McHenry, IL to Pine Creek, MN and lived there for 15 years, before moving to Roseau.  They enjoyed traveling to Florida and Arizona in the winter months.

Lewie loved to tell stories and jokes.  He restored many old tractors, made furniture and created and built many different machines.  He was a member of the United Assoc. of Plumbers’ Local 130.

He is survived by his wife, Arlene Besserud of Roseau; children, Cindy Barker, Carson (Jeanie) Besserud, Kim Brandt, Kayle (Terry) Dunham and Rayne Brandt; 10 grandkids; 18 great-grandkids; 2 great-great-grandkids; siblings, Ron (Carolyn) Besserud and Ardis MacLeod; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Lenore; son, Gary; daughter, Joan; son-in-law Roger Barker; siblings, Adeline, Earl, Ruby, John and infant JoAnn
