Susan Scott Liles
Susan Scott Liles, of Burlington went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ early Monday morning August 23, 2021. A service celebrating Susan and her spiritual life will be held at 1:30 pm on Saturday, August 28, 2021 at Lawndale Baptist Church, Greensboro, NC by Dr. Rodney Navey and Rev. Marcus Stewart. The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 1:30 at the church prior to the service. Burial will immediately follow the service at the Magnolia Cemetery in Elon.
Susan was born on December 14, 1959 in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. She was a graduate of the UNC Greensboro School of Nursing, obtaining her bachelor’s degree in 1982 and master’s degree in 1995. She married the love of her life Gregory Kemp Liles, in 1982 and together they raised their son, Gregory Scott Liles.
She was extremely proud of Gregory and enjoyed watching him grow into a man, making a profession of faith in Jesus Christ, experiencing him graduate from high school and college, his marriage to Anna Faith and the most recent birth of her grandchild Beckham Scott Liles to whom she especially loved being a grandmother.
Susan is also survived by her mother, Ann Stanley Scott known to all as “Scottie” of Winston-Salem, two brothers, Stan Scott and wife, Susan of Clemmons and Stephen Scott and wife, Elizabeth of Cary; and her nephews and niece, Paxton Scott and fiancé, Siri O’Day of Raleigh, Colby Scott of Winston-Salem, Riley Scott of Cary and Micaelah Scott Petersen and husband, Ben. She was preceded in death by her father, James K. Scott.
Susan was a member of Lawndale Baptist Church and former member of First Baptist Church of Burlington where she served at various times over the years as a choir member, girls mission leader, children’s Sunday School teacher and in mission work. Throughout Susan’s life she enjoyed the study of the Word of God including her years as a member and group leader of Bible Study Fellowship in Greensboro.
Susan who announced at the age of five that she wanted to be a nurse pursued her passion in various clinical and administrative settings in North Carolina at Forsyth Hospital, Wake Medical Center, Wesley Long Hospital, Moses H. Cone Hospital, Women’s Hospital of Greensboro and in the Alamance Burlington School System where she last served as a school nurse at Williams High School.
The family wishes to extend a special thank you to Dr. Peter Ennever and the oncology nurses and staff of Cone Health Cancer at MedCenter High Point for their friendship and compassionate care as well as the compassionate MRI/CT and radiology staff of the Wesley Long, Moses Cone and Alamance Regional hospitals; Dr Charlene Scott of LaBauer HealthCare, Dr. Robert Buccini of Eagle Physicians; and the hospice nurses and staff of the AuthoraCare Collective. Additionally, they will be forever grateful to the family of friends who loved Susan.
