Joan E. Ternyik, 85, of Tempe, Arizona and formerly of Roselle Park, New Jersey and East Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania died peacefully Saturday, August 21, 2021, while with her family in her home. She was the widow of Louis J. Ternyik who died November 3, 2008 and William Ryan who died May 21, 2021. She was born on February 28, 1936 in Jersey City, New Jersey and was a daughter of the late John T. Sr. and Lucille (VonBiedenkapp) Brady. She was a bookkeeper for St Joseph Home for the Blind in Jersey City, New Jersey and Rekemeier Flower Shop in Roselle Park, New Jersey and librarian at Robert Gordon School also in Roselle Park, New Jersey. She attended The Church of the Assumption in Roselle Park, New Jersey and taught catechism classes there, later attending The Church of St. John in Marshalls Creek, Pennsylvania. She was a member of the Pocono Silver Tappers, and a twenty year member of the Lake Committee of Pocono Heights. In earlier years she was active with the PTA and Boy Scouts. Surviving are: four children, Chris Ann Stachowiak of Scotch Plains, New Jersey, Mary Beth Davis (Wayne) of Pocono Heights, Pennsylvania, Michael Ternyik (Kelly) of Tempe, Arizona and Julie Athenson (Sandy) of Carefree, Arizona; seven grandchildren, Sean Stachowiak (Heather), Augustine Athenson, Gabriel Athenson, Eleni Athenson, Madelyn Ternyik, Claire Ternyik and Louis Ternyik; two great-grandsons, Fox and Leo; two brothers, John T. Brady Jr. of Jackson, New Jersey and Charles P. Brady of Florida; two sisters, Elizabeth Brady of Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania and Ann Marie Brady of California and many nieces and nephews. Joan will be dearly missed by everyone including the extended Ryan Family and all of her friends. She was preceded in death by three sisters, Catherine Rowe, Mary Fern, Nora Harder and one brother Cornelius C. Brady. There will be a visitation on Friday, September 3, from 2:00PM to 7:00PM at the William H. Clark Funeral Home, 1003 Main Street, Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania. The funeral service will begin at 10:00AM on Saturday, September 4, at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Moravian High Acres Cemetery in Canadensis, Pennsylvania.
