Ethel Matte

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, August 25, 2021, 11:00 A. M. at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Church Point for Ethel Matte, 87, who passed away on Saturday, August 21, 2021 at 10:15 P.M. at Eunice Manor Nursing Home in Eunice. Fr. Dan Edward, Pastor of St. Jules Catholic Church in Lafayette will be officiating for the services. Burial will be held in the Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church New Cemetery in Church Point. The family has requested visitation to be held on Tuesday, August 24, 2021 at 12:00 P.M. until 9:00 P.M. in the Duhon Funeral Home Chapel in Church Point. A Rosary will be recited at 6 o’clock in the evening in the Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation will resume on Wednesday at 8:00 A.M. until time of services. Survivors include her husband of sixty nine years, George Matte of Branch; one son, Reggie and wife, Rita Matte of Cecilia; two daughters, Janet and husband, Joey Sonnier of Branch, Joan and husband, Chuck Arsement of Lafayette; ten grandchildren, Jade M. Pitre, Jeana M. Caldwell, Dawn Bruney, Jessica S. Houston, Jen Alyse S. Moronta, Jacob Sonnier, Bret Bates, Gabe Bates, Victoria Arsement and Sophia Arsement; sixteen great-grandchildren, Nicholas, Raven, Danu, Luke, Bethany, Ben, Samuel, Kaitlyn, Gabrielle, Emmalina, Carson, Leighanna, Niesi, E.J, Ham and Magnolia; one great-great-grandson, Lochlan. Mrs. Matte was preceded in death by one daughter, Angela Matte Bates; one son-in-law, Stuart Bates; one great-grandson, Thomas Houston; her parents, Theodore and Marcelite C. Colligan; one brother, Avie Colligan; three sisters, Ellonide Colligan, Elizabeth Colligan Royer and Lydia Colligan Rogers. Mrs. Matte was CCD Teacher, Eucharistic Minister, Jubilant Hearts, and a member of the Catholic Family Movement.
