Inga M. Brodersen-Lindholm Obituary

Inga Marie Brodersen Lindholm, 48, of Papillion died Thursday, February 28, 2013, at her home. She was born February 3, 1965, at the Osmond General Hospital to Donald and Patricia (Broer) Brodersen. Her childhood was spent on the family farm southwest of Randolph. She was baptized and confirmed at St. John's Lutheran Church in Randolph. She attended K-12 at Randolph Public Schools, graduating in 1983. She was a standout athlete qualifying for state track in the shot put and/or discus all four years of high school, and held the state shot put record for many years. One of her fondest memories was as a member of the 25-0, undefeated 1981 state champion basketball team. Her tenacity and success as an athlete were recognized by many awards and honorary team memberships. She loved music and was active in band and choir and was also a member of the National Honor Society. During her high school years, Inga also discovered her love of writing, especially poetry. Jerry's Hilltop Café played a special role in Inga's life. She worked there throughout high school and at other times with her career spanning over twenty-five years. She was a waitress to be remembered and valued her membership in the Hilltop family. With a track scholarship in hand, Inga continued her education and athletic career at the University of South Dakota. She qualified for nationals her freshman year, but her track career was cut short by injury. She completed her undergraduate degree in physical education in 1987. Finding a role in which Inga could positively impact young people was important to her. Inga's career in education spanned many disciplines, including physical and special education, English language arts, ESL and Spanish. During her career, she earned four endorsements, and in 2007 a Master's of Science from Wayne State College. Her career spanned twenty-five years at Gayville-Volin School District in South Dakota, YSI Clarinda Academy in Iowa, Humboldt Public Schools, Madison High School, Osmond Community Schools, and Ralston Public Schools where she was serving at the time of her passing. She was a passionate, high-energy, innovative and dedicated teacher, giving her all to her students. Inga also had the opportunity to coach the sports she loved. Inga expanded her reach beginning in 2000 by teaching Spanish and Adult ESL at Northeast Community College. She served as an adjunct instructor until late 2007 when she assumed full-time teaching responsibilities. On June 21, 2003, Inga married Richard Allen Lindholm in Norfolk, Nebraska. Upon her marriage, she embraced not only a husband, but also step-daughters Aidan and Chantel. They most recently resided in Papillion, Nebraska, where she died following a short illness. She was loved by her family, many friends and former students. She was active in the communities in which she lived and was a member of Christ the Servant Lutheran Church of Norfolk, local chapters of the Nebraska State Education Association, and many local softball leagues. Inga is survived by her loving husband Rick and daughters Aidan Hollis of Lincoln, NE and Chantel Alspaugh of Missoula, Montana; her mother, Pat Brodersen of Randolph; 3 sisters Carmen Patent (Rod) of Randolph, Ruth Smith (Eric) of Wayne, and Martha Kennebeck (Richard) of Elkhorn, and brother Marc Brodersen (Lisa) of Lindy, NE; eighteen nieces and nephews; four great nieces and nephews; and many special friends.
