She grew to adulthood on a farm in Deuel County, attending school in Brandt and graduating from Astoria High School in 1954. She was known for welcoming new residents to town with a homemade pie and for her rosettes at Christmas and popcorn balls at Halloween. After retirement, she returned to work as a cook and waitress in the local restaurant.
