FELTON – Sadie A. Swain, 84, died peacefully at home on Monday, August 16, 2021, after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born in Viola on November 29, 1936, to the late Samuel E. Walters, Sr. and Elmira Shockley Walters. Sadie enjoyed life as a homemaker, loved harness racing, was a member of both the DE Standard Bred Owners Association and the U.S. Trotting Association, and was an avid animal lover. In addition to her parents, Sadie was preceded by her husband, William I. Swain; and brother, Samuel E. Walters, Jr. She is survived by her daughter, Bobbie Ann Swain (fiancé Del Richards, Jr.); son, John Swain; siblings, Betty Jo Wood, Robert Walters (wife Kim), and Evelyn Walters Moore; several nieces and nephews; her favorite horse, Armature Hanover; favorite dog, Gin; and Bobbie Ann’s fur babies. Funeral services will be held in the chapel of Berry-Short Funeral Home, 217 Main St., Felton, DE on Monday, August 23, 2021, at 1 pm. A time of visitation will begin at 12 noon.
