Charlaine Margaret Skeel, 71, passed away August 17, 2021 peacefully at her home in Eagle River, Alaska surrounded by family and friends after a long battle with cancer. Originally from Racine, Wisconsin, she moved up to Alaska in 1971, during her honeymoon, on a whim with the love of her life, Larry Skeel. They eventually started their family and helped to create community for the next 50 years of their lives. Charlaine, known as “Char,” had a love for families from the beginning. She had many work roles over the years but all surrounded around helping the health of families and children in her community. Her last several years of work she spent as a pre-school teacher having raised countless children, and their children’s children who continue to have fond memories of her into adulthood. Her strength, faith, compassion, values and altruism truly made her an unforgettable mother, wife, sister, daughter, friend and neighbor. Char was also known for her faith, love of camping and being an avid Green Bay Packers fan. Go! Pack! Go! Char was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Larry Skeel, and parents, Elaine Gardner and Charles Gardner. She is survived by her sons, Brandon and Tyler Skeel, her granddaughters, Tyanna Melak and Cerrinn Gurnsey Skeel, her daughter-in-law, Sarah Skeel, and her grandson’s, Carson and Nolan Skeel. A celebration of life will be arranged at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for any donation to be considered for Let Every Woman Know, which is a local nonprofit whose Mission is to provide “creative statewide education, support, advocacy and arts programs unique to Alaska’s diverse communities and is dedicated to preventing, facing and ending gynecological cancers.”
