William “Bill” Charles Sholin Bill was born January 7, 1923 in Hoquiam, Washington to John and Monteza Sholin. He passed away December 31, 2005, in Bonney Lake, Washington at the age of 82. Bill was preceded in death by his son Dennis. He was the loving husband of Marilyn for 58 years; father of Billie (Duane) Field of Snohomish, WA, Kathy (Scott) Olsen of Oconomowoc, WI, and Jim Sholin of Council Grove, KS; grandfather of 12 and great grandfather of 6. He is also survived by his brothers Bob (Meredith) Sholin and Elvan (Patty) Sholin. At the age of 20 Bill joined the Navy and served as an electrician and rescue swimmer aboard the U.S.S. Wren during WWII. After the war he moved to Milwaukee where he met and married Marilyn Muenchow on August 16, 1947 He worked as an electrician for many years and later started “Sholin Manufacturing”, where he manufactured and sold his own invention, an air injected whirlpool bath. His idea to inject air into the water to increase turbulence is now an industry standard. In 1975 he moved to California where he owned and operated “Great Western Trucking” until he retired in 1989, after moving back to Washington. With his new found free time, Bill decided to write a book about his navy exploits aboard the U.S.S. Wren. He subsequently wrote three books about the Kamikaze attacks on the American Fleet during WWII and became a nationally known naval historian and author. Bill enjoyed flying and owned several airplanes during his life. He also enjoyed boating and was an inventor most of his life. He was a proud member of the Enumclaw V.F.W. Post, The Tacoma chapter of the D.A.V. and the Puyallup American Legion.
