Dana Jean Zaputil Obituary
Dana Jean (Kombol) Zaputil, age 94, was born March 12, 1918 to Anton and Lulu (Shircliff) Kombol in Billings, Montana. She passed away peacefully on May 9, 2012 in Kent, Washington. Dana grew up in a small mining community called Hiawatha, near Kangley, Washington. She graduated from Enumclaw High School with the class of 1937 and had been to many high school reunions. She attended the University of Washington for two years. In 1942 Dana married Frank Zaputil at Calvary Presbyterian Church in Enumclaw. He grew up in Bayne, another mining community a few miles south of Hiawatha. They resided in Seattle their entire married life. She worked for Rhodes Department Store in Seattle for many years. Besides being a dedicated homemaker she enjoyed cooking family dinners, cake decorating, ceramics, sewing, knitting, crocheting and making clothes for her nieces and nephews. Dana was a life long dog lover and Mariners fan. Over the years she had acquired an extensive Teddy Bear collection. She was quite skillful at many different endeavors and was the house mechanic at her home. She enjoyed traveling, often accompanying her husband on business trips and other family members on vacations in the U.S. including Hawaii and Alaska as well as a trip to Europe with her sister Nola. Dana made numerous trips to Lincoln City and motor homing to Leavenworth with her sister's families. She enjoyed activities with both her family and her husband's family.
Dana was preceded by her husband Frank, parents Anton and Lulu, brothers Bernell and Jack Kombol; brother in-law Chester Fontana (Nola) and sister-in-law Pauline Kombol (Jack) preceded her.
Dana is survived by her sisters Nola Fontana and Nadine (Joe) Silvestri and numerous nieces and nephews and their children.
Dana was a member of the Children's Orthopedic Guild. Donations may be made in Dana's name to Seattle Children's Hospital Foundation, PO Box 50020, Seattle, WA 98145-2020 or to your favorite charity.
A Celebration of Dana's Life will be held at Noon on Saturday, June 2nd at Grimstad Farms in Kent. Dana was laid to rest beside her husband Frank at Evergreen Memorial Park in Enumclaw.
