James Riley Tomes, III Obituary

James Riley Tomes III was born on February 11, 1958 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, he was the son of James Riley Tomes, Jr. and Elnora Davis Tomes. On December 31, 2016, he married Kimberly Sue (Conover) Tomes at their home in Jones, Oklahoma. Jim has been a faithful member of OKC Faith Church in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma since 1996. In 2000, he became head usher and has spent the last twenty (20) years leading that ministry. In 1976, Jim graduated from U.S. Grant High School in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. The following year he began employment with Grainger Industrial Supply and spent most of his career as an Outside Sales Account Manager. “During his free time, Jim bowled on a co-ed bowling team, he enjoyed watching OU football and Thunder basketball games, and he spent most of his evenings and weekends umpiring boys machine-pitched baseball.” After working forty-three (43) years with Grainger, he retired in January of 2020. Following retirement, Jim preferred spending his time at Lake Eufaula fishing, riding around on his golf-cart, or sitting in a lawn chair with his feet in the water. But most of all, he treasured his time spent with his family. Jim passed away peacefully in his sleep with his wife next to his side, on Sunday August 15, 2021 at the age of sixty-three (63) after fighting a long, tough battle with cancer. He is survived by his wife, Kim Tomes of Jones, Oklahoma; his daughter Amber Darakhshan and husband Brian, and one grandson, Brice Darakhshan of Jones, Oklahoma; son, Krager Tomes of South Korea; son, Matthew Conover of Midwest City, Oklahoma; and daughter, Hunter Conover of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Jim will be greatly missed by all of his friends and family. Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 19, 2021 from 5:00pm to 8:00pm at Barnes Friederich Funeral Home located at 1820 S. Douglas Blvd in Midwest City, Oklahoma. Funeral Service will be held on Friday, August 20, 2021 at 1:00pm at OKC Faith Church located at 800 S.
