Eleanor May Mazzeo Obituary

Eleanor May Mazzeo 90, of Northfield, passed away surrounded by her loving family on Friday, August 13th, 2021. Eleanor attended Our Lady Star of the Sea school in Atlantic City. She also went to Holy Spirit High School where she was Valedictorian. She met the love of her life Benjamin and they were married in 1957.They had three boys Frank, Benjamin and Vincent. Eleanor worked as a telephone operator for Ma Bell in the late 1940’s to mid-1950’s. In 1959 Ben opened B.F. Mazzeo Fruit & Produce and Eleanor joined him. The success of B.F. Mazzeo in the early years wasn’t easy. Eleanor and Ben worked side by side to make it a success. The business grew into what it is today a retail specialty market and wholesale fruit and produce distributor. Ben and Eleanor always wanted to have their family work in the business. Eleanor was the person who paid the bills and took care of the receivables. She took pride in being organized and making sure the work got done right. Ben and Eleanor weren’t vacationers but enjoyed going out to dinner and the casinos. Eleanor was an active member of the Mainland Band Boosters during the 1970’s. She also was a longtime parish member of St. Bernandette’s now St.Gianna parish. She had a strong faith and strong belief in giving back to various charitable organizations. Eleanor is predeceased by her husband Benjamin. She is survived by her three sons, Frank (Debbie), Benjamin (Marsha), and Vincent (Gerri); eight grandchildren, Ben (Debbie), Joe (Juliann), Kelly (Chad), Kristen, Kami (Andrew), Amanda, Ted and Marisa who all had their time working in the business. Eleanor is survived by 12 great grandchildren. A visitation will be held Thursday August 19, at Our Lady Star of the Sea in Atlantic City. Where family and friends can visit 10:00am to 11am followed by a Catholic Mass. At the conclusion of the services, Eleanor will be laid to rest at the Holy Cross Cemetery next to Benjamin.
