Mary "Peggy-Jean" Magdalene Turner Obituary

Mary Magdalene Turner, Affectionately known as "Peggy Jean", transitioned from time into eternity on Wednesday, August 4, 2021, at home in Columbus, Ohio. She was born on November 10, 1938, in Danville, Illinois to Lillian McMillan Churchill and Keneth Carr.

Mary graduated from Danville High School where she played trombone and was a Majorette. She also took courses at Illinois Central College.

On December 3, 1957, Peggy married the love of her life, Thomas Franklin Turner, affectionately "Tee", in Crawfordsville, Indiana. They were married for 63 years!

Mary was a vibrant soul. She love people and never met a stranger. She was kind, caring and giving. She loved having a good time and being happy. Her family, including nieces and nephews alike, enjoyed being in her presence and hearing her laugh. Mary's greatest joy was her family. She often said her children were her life! She also loved spending quality time with close friends. Her friendships were rich and lasting. Mary enjoyed listening to music - especially jazz, dancing, bowling, photography and shopping. She later developed a passion for fine jewelry, designer purses, exquisite perfumes and T-shirts. Not afraid to enjoy life, her motto could have been "Do it, Be it, Buy it!".

Mary was an industrious person. She was gainfully employment at Caterpillar, from which she retired in the year 2000 after 28 years of service. While working and raising her children, She still found time to sell Avon and Amway, host garage sales and work as an aid with District 150. During the Christmas season, she could be found working in retail stores, such as Bergners. Mary also supported her husband's pursuits by being a design consultant for Turner's Home Improvement and co-owner of Turners Entertainment Center (a records and billiards store). After a brief retirement, she work at various clothing stores and for District 150 as a crossing guard.

Mary had strong faith in Jesus Christ. Her favorite prayer was the Serenity Prayer and her favorite scripture was James 5:13-15. She was a member of St. Paul Baptist Church, where she faithfully served as an office assistant, kitchen aid and an usher.

Mary is survived by her children: Ronald Turner of Indianapolis, Indiana, Steven Turner and Rob (Cherry) Turner both of Peoria, Illinois, and Patricia (Tom) Edwards of Columbus, Ohio; cousin Barbary Hughes; sisters-in-law, Sally Rodgers of Inglewood, California, and Emma Turner of Indianapolis; brother-in-law, James Turner of Indianapolis, Indiana; grand children, Petey Adams, Patricia Davis, Tory DeBose, Audra Edwards, Brittany Harris, Teressa Holly-Moore and Tamika Randolph; great-grandson, Tevion Price; special sisters, Patricia Jordan and Barbara (Clarence) Sterling; and host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
