Obituary

Passed away at the Lions Prairie Manor, Portage la Prairie, MB, on Thursday August 12, 2021 at the age of 94 years, Marjorie Alice Ennis (nee Graham), formerly of Treherne, MB.

She leaves to mourn her passing her two children Murray (Rita) Ennis of Portage la Prairie, MB, and Shirley Urban (Roger Anderson) of Victoria, BC; grandchildren Kelly (Ryan) and Derek, great grandchildren Austyn, Isabel and Kyle as well as several nieces, nephews and extended relatives.

She was predeceased by her husband Orval (2007), parents Joe & Marion Graham and by sisters Lila (Marino) Johnson, Bernice (Lloyd) Orrock and Merle (Bill) Purkess.

Mom was born July 22, 1927 in Holland, MB, the youngest of four girls.   She was raised in the Rae District where she attended school and later went to high school in Holland.  After leaving home, she boarded in Treherne where she worked in Currie’s General Store and later the Post Office.

Mom met the love of her life, Orval, while strolling the Treherne promenade on a Saturday night.  They were married in 1946.  Until her move to the Lions Prairie Manor in 2019, she lived all her life in Treherne, which she claimed was the best small town around.

Mom was a devoted homemaker, wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother.  She kept a meticulous house, yard, and vegetable garden.  For many years, she canned vegetables, made preserves, and butchered chickens.

She took an active part in church and community activities especially community sports.  Mom loved old-time music and Mom and Dad took in many local dances.  They square danced for more than twenty-one years and many friendships were forged as a result of their dancing activities.

When Dad became ill, she visited him every day in the hospital for many hours always making sure that she was there for lunch and supper so she could feed him.  She showed unconditional love to her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.  Her grandchildren and great grandchildren were her precious gems.  She was a source of love and strength for our whole family.

A time of visitation for family & friends will be held on Monday August 16, 2021 from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm at Jamieson’s Funeral Chapel, Holland MB.
