Hedwig Elisabeth Ries of Gainesville, Florida passed away peacefully on August 10, 2021 at the age of 94. She was the beloved wife of the late Ernest P. Ries and the devoted mother of Monica Schlatterer (Jürgen) and Robert Ries (Patricia Murphy). She was a loving grandmother to Melanie Kistner (Jochen), Jessica Moderhak (Karsten) and Emma Ries as well as a cherished great grand­mother to Alexander, Christian, Adrian, and Emma.

 

Hedwig was born to Emma and Otto Kilian in Flehingen, Germany, one of seven siblings. She emigrated to the United States in 1952 and wed Ernest on June 12, 1954. She lived for over 50 years in Glendale, and retired in 1986 as a dietician at the Brooklyn Home for Children in Forest Hills, Queens. Hedwig moved to Gainesville, Florida to be with her son Robert and family in December 2014. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

In addition to the services in Glendale, there will be a Mass in her memory on Saturday Septem­ber 4, 2021 at Holy Faith Catholic Church in Gainesville, Florida.
