Shirley June Kuhlmann of Chester, NE the daughter of Adolph and Lenora (Ahrens) Gehle was born on a farm near Chester, NE June 17, 1943. She departed this life Tuesday, August 10, 2021 at her home in Chester, NE.

 

Shirley was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Stoddard, NE.

 

She attended a one room country school through the 8th grade and then went to Chester High School and later received her GED.

 

Shirley married Karis Kuhlmann September 12, 1959. This union was blessed with the birth of three children.

 

Shirley was helpmate on the farm caring for the livestock, helping where ever needed, cooking and taking care of the kids.

 

She also worked as a cook at the local cafes, senior center Chester, and the Belleville Hospital.

 

Her church was her rock and teaching bible school at Abiding Word Lutheran Church in Deshler, NE. She enjoyed making new friends, sewing and quilting.

 

She is preceded in death by her parents, two sisters Lillias Davenport and Larriet Davenport, one brother Delain Gehle, two brothers-in-law Clarence Vorderstrasse and A.J. Davenport, two sisters-in-law Marjorie Gehle and Connie Gehle.

 

She is survived by her husband Karis of Chester, NE, sons Scot Kuhlmann and wife Lori of Chester, NE, Rob Kuhlmann and wife Deb of Chester, and daughter Michele Dinkel and husband Charles of Chester, four grandchildren; Justin Kuhlmann of Chester, Jennifer Craig and husband Nathan of Munden, KS, Steven Kuhlmann and wife Christie of Chester, and Sarah Watson and husband Tyler of Hebron, stepgrandchildren; Kelly Clar Parker and special friend Garrett of Hebron, Becky Day of Hebron and Curtis Day and wife Michell of Texas, brother Jim Gehle of Byron, NE, brother-in-law Bob Davenport of Overton, NE, and sister Verleen Vorderstrasse of Chester, NE, seven great-grandchildren; Taylor and Nick of Omaha, Dalton of Lincoln, NE, JaeLynn, Pierce and Lilyana Watson of Hebron, Corban and Hudson Craig of Munden, KS, step-grandchildren Kaila, Autumn Barr of Hebron, Chloe,and Clarabel of Hebron, Hayle, Addison and Keegan of Texas, nieces, nephews and friends.

 

Funeral services will be at Abiding Word Lutheran Church in Deshler, NE Friday, August 13, 2021 at 10:30 AM, officiant will be Pastor Ken Hart. Organist Marilyn Kettelhut, congregational hymns; "Rock of Ages", "My Faith Looks Up To Thee", "How Great Thou Art", "Because He Lives", casket bearers; Justin Kuhlmann, Steven Kuhlmann, Dalton Kuhlmann, Nathan Craig, Tyler Watson and Mylan Gehle. Memorials in care of the family. Visitation will be Thursday, August 12, 2021 at Kroll Funeral Home in Hebron, NE 2-6 PM with family greeting friends 5-6 PM.
