Theresa Castanon Maturino Soledad, California Obituary

Theresa Castanon Maturino

Theresa Castanon Maturino Born August 28, 1920 in Somerton Arizona Passed away on April 16, 2016 at 95 years of age. Theresa was life long resident of Gonzales California. She and her family arrived to the Salinas Valley in 1956. She and her family would travel as many other family's did from the Imperial Valley to the Salinas Valley following the work in the agricultural fields and packing sheds. She became a supervisor at an early age for the Bud Antle Company running the carrot field packing shed on wheels for about 10 yrs. In 1962 she decided that traveling back and forth from the Imperial Valley to the Salinas Valley was not good for the family so she began work as a supervisor for Harden Farms in many jobs, some of you will probably remember her best from the Harden asparagus shed. Theresa went on to work as a supervisor for several other Companies such as Darrigo Brothers, Oshita Inc., Gonzales Packing Company to name of few and she ended her working career with Mann Packing at age 74. Theresa was a very proud, strong and independent women. She used to say that the proudest and greatest accomplishment of in her life was the fact that "she raised her 9 kids as a single parent without ever asking for help from any state agency". To say that Theresa was a hard working person would be an understatement and those who knew her would say that she was hard on you, but she taught you how to do the job well. We in the family would like to think that her birth had a significance such as the year and month she was born, was also the month and year women were given the right to vote in this country. She is preceded in death by her daughter Angelina Maturino Rodriguez (Antonio/deceased) and her son Manuel Maturino and her 5 sisters. She is survived by her daughters Beatriz Maturino Contreras (Onofre/deceased), Adela Maturino Celaya (Richard), Gloria Maturino and her sons Felipe Maturino (Natalie), David Maturino (Maria), Miguel Maturino (Rosa) and Peter Maturino (Yolanda). She leaves behind 41 grandkids, 90 great grandkids, 27 great great grand kids and 2 great, great, great grand Kids. Our mother and grandmother will sorely missed.
