George H. Byrne Obituary
George H. Byrne, 89, died at Trustbridge Hospice - Palm Beach Gardens Medical Center in Palm Beach Gardens, FL on Monday, August 2, 2021 surrounded by his loving family after a brief stay at that facility. For the last several years, he lived at Atria Park of St. Joseph’s Senior Living community in Jupiter, FL where he was treated with care and great support by the staff. He was born on April 7, 1932 to George Byrne and Celestine Weinhusen Byrne of New Haven, CT. George was predeceased by his wife, Julie (Labbe) Byrne. They were married for 50 years before her death in 2005.
George grew up in New Haven, CT and graduated from East Haven High School in 1950. He was passionate about all forms of motor vehicles and raced stock cars in his teens. George spent his career as the Lead Sales Executive for Commercial and Fleet vehicles with International, Volvo and Mercedes and enjoyed it greatly. He retired at age 72 in 2004 but continued part time for several years afterwards because of the many relationships he had forged in southern CT. George spent over 10 years in the United States Naval Reserves (January 1951 – June 1961) and was a proud veteran of the Navy. Throughout his life, he enjoyed traveling with Julie and they were most often accompanied by Julie’s sisters and husbands Walter and Lois Domozyck along with Lance and Joan Albrecht. They raised their children in a very close family environment celebrating every holiday and birthdays with picnics and pool parties. He was a loving father and particularly enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.
George is survived by his two daughters, Maureen Mahany and her husband Mark of Jupiter, FL and Nancy Trinchini and her husband Jim of Lake Worth, FL; 4 grandchildren: Matthew Riley Mahany and his wife Katherine of San Francisco, CA, Nicholas Mahany of Brighton, MA, Melissa DiPasquale and her husband Giovanne of Jupiter, FL, and Sarah Trinchini of Rochester, NY. He is also survived by his sister, Anne Kulenski and her husband Charles of Guilford, CT and his sister-in-law Joan Albrecht and her husband Lance of Streetsboro, OH. He was predeceased by his younger brother, Richard Byrne of Sydney, Australia in 2002. Richard is survived by his wife Toni of Sydney, Australia. He was also beloved by all of his family members, all who affectionately called him “Uncle George” and “Grandpa.”
