<p>George W. Johns passed to his eternal reward on August 1, 2021 after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.&nbsp; He was born November 30, 1946 to the late Frank E. Johns and Rosemary P. (Usher) Johns.&nbsp; He was also preceded in death by his siblings Frank E. Johns, Jr., Judith A Raftery and Greg M. Johns, Sr.&nbsp; He is survived by his siblings Deborah Marie Roth and Kathryn Diana Mahoney.</p> <p>He married the love of his life, Jeanne L. (Sellmer) Johns on June 7, 1969 at St. Gabriel Catholic Church and together they enjoyed over 52 years of marriage.&nbsp; Children born of this union are Heather A. (Johns) Yoder (Lynn), George W. &quot;GW&quot; Johns II (Corey), Kelly I (Johns) Hartman (Eric); grandchildren, Lloyd Jackson Hartman, Kendall Lynn Hartman, George W. Johns, III, Willow Aubrey Johns, and Wyatt Michael Knopf.</p> <p>George graduated from Cathedral High School, the class of 1964 and attended Indiana University.</p> <p>George proudly served his country in the US Army during the Vietnam era.&nbsp; He worked 38 1/2 years for American United Life in several positions, retiring March 31, 2006. After retirement He began working at and was a member of the board of directors for the family owned Usher Funeral Home. He also worked for H &amp; R Block and was a self employed tax preparer.</p> <p>George was an Honorary Life member of the Knights of Columbus 3rd degree and was a Past Grand Knight of Holy Family Council #3682 and was also a 4th degree Bishop Chatard Assembly number 245 member.&nbsp; Additionally he served as President of the Central Indiana Chapter of the Knights of Columbus, several state positions including Lifetime Ambassador to Gibault Children&#39;s Services.&nbsp; He was the Central Indiana K of C Layman of the year in 1982-83.&nbsp; George was also a Member of the American Legion Post #500.&nbsp; He was very active and involved in all the parishes his family has attended throughout the years.</p> <p>A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11am Saturday, August 7, 2021 at St. Christopher Catholic Church.&nbsp;&nbsp;Visitation for George is 4pm-8pm Friday, August 6, 2021 at the Usher Funeral Home, and from 10am until the time of services on Saturday at the church.&nbsp; A Knight of Columbus rosary service will be held at 7pm Friday at the funeral home, with a military service to follow.</p> <p>The family would like to thank the Indiana University Health Hospice Team and Dr. Paul R. Helft of&nbsp;Indiana University Oncology for the help, support and care given to George of the past several months.</p> <p>In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the following:</p> <p>St. Augustine Home/Little Sisters of the Poor, 2345 W. 86th Street, Indianapolis, IN 46260;&nbsp;St. Christopher Capital Campaign Fund, 5301 West 16th Street, Indianapolis, IN 46224;&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; Gibault Children&#39;s Services, 6401 US Highway 41, Terre Haute, IN 47802.</p>
