Leroy Taylor, Jr.

<b>Leroy Taylor, Jr.</b> was born on March 5, 1930 in Egg Harbor Township, New Jersey to the union of Leroy Taylor and Ursula Jackson Taylor. At the age of eleven, Leroy was baptized in Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Pleasantville, New Jersey. As a young man, he sang on the radio on Sunday mornings with a gospel male chorus. He was educated in the Egg Harbor Public School system and graduated from Pleasantville High School. Leroy was a member of the National Guard for many years until he was drafted into the United States Army in 1955. He served in Germany during peacetime. In 1955, Leroy married Carrie L. Brown, whom he knew most of his life. From this union, they was blessed with one son, Leroy III and the family lived in Roselle, New Jersey for 40 years. Leroy was employed as an Inspector and Investigator at the NJ Division of Motor Vehicles for 30 years, retiring in 1987. He was a faithful member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church before moving to North Jersey. He joined Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church in Roselle in 1960 where he served in several positions including the Usher Board and later as Chairman of the Trustee Board for many years. After moving to Monroe Township in 2000, he joined First Baptist Church of Lincoln Gardens in Somerset. "Junior," as he was affectionately called, was also a member of the Hayman Civic Association, a political group of Roselle, the Democratic Club of Roselle and other various political groups in Union county. He was also a member of the Roselle Board of Health. After retirement, he enjoyed spending time with his two grandsons. Always fond of choral music, he would be found singing hymns and Christmas carols with his grandsons and family members. On Friday, April 15, 20 l6, Leroy Taylor, Jr. departed this earthly life at the Elms of Cranbury Rehabilitation Center in Cranbury, New Jersey. He was preceded in death by his parents, and sisters: Ursula Earle, Gladys Hartman, Ellen Hudson and Maymie Jones. Leroy leaves to cherish loving memories, his devoted wife of 61 years, Carrie L. Taylor; son, Dr. Leroy Taylor, III, and his wife, Patricia; 2 grandsons: Kyle and Sean; 3 sisters: Valerie Tyler, of Chesapeake, Virginia, Barbara Silver of Dumont, New Jersey and Lillie Freeman of Pleasantville, New Jersey; and a host of nieces, nephews and dear family members. <b>In lieu of flowers, the family request donations to the American Heart Association, 1 Union St., Suite 301, Robbinsville, NJ 08691.
