Mr. Gary Alan Renner Obituary

RENNER Gary Renner, age 67 years, passed away peacefully in hospital on Friday July 30, 2021 after a courageous battle with cancer. Gary was born in Port Arthur, Ontario on September 12, 1953. He was raised in a North End neighborhood and started working for his father at Twin Port Tire at 16 years; eventually becoming the owner and operator. He met Mary, the love of his life, at 21 and were happily married for 44 years with two children blessing their union. If you knew Gary, you knew he loved his family, friends and the Green Bay Packers. He had a big personality, was loud and loved to joke around. He was the hardest worker you'd ever meet and he loved his job, but seemed to always have the time to help friends in need because he cherished his relationships. He always made it a priority on Saturdays to host friends stopping by his shop for coffee or to make sure he saw his grandkids every couple of days just to roughhouse with them and tease them in his own caring way. When he had time in his busy schedule he loved taking trips south of the border with his wife and son to catch the races at Cedar Lakes Speedway or to try their luck at a casino. He fondly remembered their 2nd honeymoon trip to Las Vegas to see NASCAR. In the winter he enjoyed riding with his son and close friends at Snowarama. During the summer he would be outside tinkering or gardening, and enjoying the sun. Gary was also nuts about sports; watching, playing and coaching whenever he could. He almost never missed a Packers game and was one of their biggest fans; sporting green and gold any given day you saw him. Seeing them play at Lambeau Field, was a very special memory of his. He loved bowling 5-pin, but especially loved coaching the Special Olympics 5-pin league. He always had a special place in his heart for all the athletes he coached which was reflected in the way they looked up to him. Above all else though, he loved his family immensely. He was such a caring person that even in his final days he was always thinking about them and making sure that they were well taken care of. He was a really great person and will be missed so much. If he could, he would want to give a heartfelt thanks to all his family and friends that helped him during his battle, and for their continued support after his death. Gary is survived by his wife Mary and their children, Christy (Eric Osvath) and Alan; his grandchildren Norah, Ayden and Violet Osvath; siblings, Bob Renner (Sandi), Lorraine Deck (Greg), Joan Steeves (Lenny), John “Jack” Renner (Karen) and Donna Koutny; in-laws Peter Kmeco (Darlene) and Debbie Cooney; as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Charles and Dorothy Renner; siblings, Cheryl Large and James Renner; in-laws Stefan and Maria Kmeco; niece Kimberly Hickman and nephew Michael Large. Cremation has taken place; as Gary didn't want a traditional funeral, a Celebration of Gary's Life will be announced at a later date. Services have been entrusted to SIMPLER TIMES CREMATION CENTRE, 332 North May Street at Cameron. If friends so desire, in lieu of flowers donations may be made to Special Olympics Thunder Bay or to the MS Society of Canada.
