John L. Roberts

<p>John L. Roberts, 72, of Windham, CT passed away peacefully on July 29, 2021 with his beloved honey, Dee by his side. He was born on November 19, 1948 in Willimantic, CT to the late Omer and Lillian (Sellars) Roberts.<br /> <br /> John proudly served his country as a Sergeant with the US Air Force 553rd Reconnaissance Wing Batcats based in Otis, MA and Korat, Thailand during the Vietnam War. He performed his duties as a Master Crew Chief on EC-121R electronic surveillance airplanes.&nbsp;<br /> <br /> He worked for J.S. Nasin Co. as a construction supervisor for 30 years and retired as a building inspector.&nbsp;<br /> &nbsp;<br /> John&rsquo;s hobbies include antique military weaponry collection, sports cars, and rebuilding anything he found rusting away on the side of the road.&nbsp;<br /> &nbsp;<br /> He is survived by his sisters Nancy Dorsey and her husband Thomas, Carolyn Jordan and her husband Barry, his brothers Richard and Stephen and his wife Kathryn, his wife Diedra Gosline and children, and numerous extended family members. Along with his son John Jr (Jen Miller) and daughter Michelle Roberts (Whitney Aldridge) who were always so proud to have him as a father and mentor.&nbsp;<br /> <br /> John was preceded in death by his sister Patricia Alberson and brother Charles Roberts.&nbsp;<br /> &nbsp;<br /> John&rsquo;s family will receive relatives and friends on Wednesday, August 4, 2021 from 3:00 to 5:00pm at Potter Funeral Home, 456 Jackson St. Willimantic with his funeral service following at 5:00pm.&nbsp;A memorial gathering will be held at the Veterans Community Center at 1320 Main St, Willimantic at 6:00pm. Due to the rise in COVID-19, we ask that masks be worn during the calling hours and the funeral service.<br /> <br /> In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be sent to the Eastern CT Veterans Community Center in Willimantic or to Hartford Healthcare Hospice. A good man has died. Buildings did not close. Flags were not flown at half mast. Children played and life went on as it did yesterday and will again tomorrow. But he was our friend and people should know. A good man has died.
