Roy Barnes Obituary
On July 26,2021, Roy Barnes left his family and friends and went home to be with the Lord.
Roy was the loving and caring husband to Elaine. The loving father of two, loving grandfather to three and
great-grandfather to five children who loved spending time with their Paw Paw Roy. They were all
the light of his life. Roy was looking forward to the birth of his great-granddaughter due on his
birthday, January 5, 2022.
Born on January 5, 1941, in Chumuckla, FL, Roy was raised in Chumuckla graduating from
Chumuckla High School. He started his career working in chemical plants first at Monsanto, then
First Chemical in Mississippi. He spent many years working for Aramco in Saudi Arabia which gave
him the opportunity to travel to many places around the world. After retirement, he and Elaine built
a home back in Chumuckla, FL where he lived until his passing.
Roy attended Wallace Baptist Church. Roy didn't consider himself to be religious, but he was a Christian
who loved the Lord and loved studying the bible. Roy had many conversations with his family and
friends about what it meant to be saved and know Jesus Christ as his savior.
Roy was preceded in death by his parents, Vernie (Son) Barnes and Evelyn Miller Barnes also of
Chumuckla, Fl, his brother, Vernie Ray Barnes and Elaine's son, Daniel Edward Golden.
He is survived by his wife, Elaine Golden. His children, Michael R. Barnes and Cindy B. (Kirk) Waters; three
grandchildren, Erica Barnes, Jace (Kathleen) Waters, Amy (Cody) Henry; and five
great-grandchildren, JJ and Tate Waters, Bo Henry, Adynn Phillips and Briella Bowler.
Roy is also survived by Elaine's daughter, Concettia Nall, daughter-in-law, Cathy Golden. Elaine's
grandchildren, Andrea N. (Ryan) Alston, Ciara, Caristyn and John Daniel Golden.
Roy also has a host of family members and dear friends left to cherish his memory.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 31, 2021, at Jay Funeral Chapel. Visitation will be at
10:00 am and the funeral will be at 11:00 am with Andy Martin of Wallace Baptist Church officiating.
The pallbearers are Jace Waters, Cody Henry, John Daniel Golden, Ryan Alston, Jimmy Burgess and
Chandler Burgess.
We would like to extend our deepest gratitude to Covenant Care Center for Hospice Care at West
Florida Hospital for their exceptional and loving care given to Roy during his final days.
