William Beryl Meyer

William "Bill" Meyer, 92, of Rural Valley, passed away peacefully in his sleep on July 29, 2021 at Grey's Colonial Acres. He was born on October 10, 1928 to Orman and Mabel (Miller) Meyer in Rural Valley. William grew up on the family farm in Blanco. he served in the Army in Berlin from December 1951 until his honorable discharge to the Reserves in November 1953. William retired from Peoples Gas in November 1989 after 32 years of service. He was proud of his strong work ethic. One of his favorite sayings was "A good days work never hurt anybody." He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He could always be seen on the porch swing waving to travelers passing by. He was active in the Blanco Grange and his Church, Gastown United Church of Christ. He was adamant that a man's days on earth are determined by the Creator God. Rest in peace, William, Rest in Peace. William is survived by his wife of 71 years Patty L. (Blakney) Meyer; son, Gary (Jill) Meyer of Manorville, PA; daughter, Linda (Mark) Barnes of New Castle; three grandsons, Joshua (Heather) Meyer, Jared (Megan) Meyer, and Ryan Barnes; granddaughter, Marcie Barnes; 6 great-grandchildren, Reagan Meyer, Reese Meyer, Hadlie Meyer, Kade Meyer, Victoria Barnes, and Olivia Barnes; three sisters, Dorgene Wingard of NY, Elaine (Raymond) Hayes of NuMine, and Florence Clark of IL; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and 2 brothers, Donald and Wade Meyer. Visitation will be held Sunday, August 1, 2021, 5:00 pm - 8:00 pm at the Carson/Boyer Funeral Home, Inc., 724 W. Main St. Rural Valley, PA. Funeral services will be held on Monday, August 2, 2021, 11:00 am at the Funeral Home with Pastor Tim Lewis, officiating. Additional visitation will be held one hour prior to services. Burial will take place in the Harkleroad Cemetery with full military honors.
