Robert James Cattani, born on May 14 th , 1990 in Wray, Colorado, passed away on
July 16 th , 2021. Despite the sadness of Rob’s passing at a young age, there is joy in
how Rob lived life. Family and Friends find peace in Rob’s compassion and his
love for being outdoors. Whether hiking, climbing, backpacking, skateboarding,
skiing, or snowboarding – there was no challenge that superseded Rob’s ambition
including earning the rank of Eagle Scout and completing the four hundred and
eighty five mile Colorado Trail, solo.
Rob’s legacy will be the lasting impact on family and friends alike. He was the
first to “strike up” a conversation with friends and strangers alike. He was
extraordinarily compassionate with a heart of gold, blind to any cultural or social
differences, a robust positive attitude complimented by a wonderful (sometimes
self-deprecating) sense of humor and a contagious zest for life.
Rob was a colorful person, proudly represented by tattoos. Regarding the nature of
some of this body art he once said in jest, “Not every book with a great cover is a
good read!” It can be said with confidence that Rob’s story is definitely a good
read.
Rob was the most kind hearted, funny, and hard working person ever. He was
unapologetically himself with an untamed spirit. He was his own person, made
friends easily, and had a manner of squeezing the zest out of life surpassed by
none. He was the “Energizer Bunny” with a highly positive and happy attitude.
Laughter was his medicine. He was the sweetest guy and a true gentleman. He had
a huge heart of gold and could show empathy for those that felt pain. He sought to
provide relief for those that hurt. In that vein he had a strong desire to help those in
troubled situations.
Rob was truly the most compassionate soul.
Rob sought to entertain through story telling. Every person in his life was
remembered through a tale that was etched in his memory. Rob was able to
verbalize the stories, sometimes with a bit of embellishment to make his audiences
roar with laughter.
Throughout his life Rob used some unique verbalizations that his parents call
“Rob-isms”. He always made us chuckle and laugh.

Rob had an excellent work ethic. He succeeded in harnessing his natural internal
energy to accomplish much.
He was active in Boy Scouts and achieved the rank of Eagle Scout.
He attended The Community College of Denver and received an
Applied Science Degree in Welding along with several welding
certifications.
Rob started a small business for sewing welding apparel called
“welding skanks”
He succeeded in completing a through-hike of the entire 485 miles of
the Colorado Trail
He received a Wilderness First Aid Responder Certification
From a Parent’s perspective, Rob provided the ability to once again see life
through a young person’s eyes. Rob brought music and laughter back into our
lives. He loved the wonders of the outdoors and reminded his parents of the
original purpose for seeking the western mountains as a way of living. Be it his
passions for music, guitar, photography, bicycling, hiking, camping, backpacking,
mountain climbing, skiing, snowboarding, skateboarding, just hanging with friends
and even cliff jumping... Rob brought all of these activities back into our home and
we are profoundly richer having had him in our lives. Most importantly, Rob made
us laugh.
We should be sure to know that Rob regarded his family with pride and the highest
esteem. He often reflected on each and every one with fond memories of shared
adventures and made a point to inquire as to their health and life situations.
