Online condolences may be offered to Ted's family at www.aldenharrington.com Theodore Harold Hilk was born November 5, 1990 in Huntsville, AL, the son of Wayne and Lisa (Fischer) Hilk. He was baptized at Grace Lutheran Church in Huntsville, AL and later confirmed at Harvest Ridge Covenant Church in Shawnee, KS. Ted was active in the Boy Scouts of America, participating in many camping and high adventure outings. He earned his Eagle Scout rank in 2005. He attended schools in Shawnee KS, graduating with honors from Mill Valley High School in 2009. Theodore applied and was accepted to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He graduated in 2013 with a Bachelor of Science in Course 6-3, Electrical Engineering and Computer Science as well as a Bachelor of Science in Course 13, Applied Mathematics. He enjoyed his years in Cambridge being involved in oncology research as well as his job with a prestigious Boston investment firm. He was a willing accomplice in the famous April 2010 “Upside Down Lounge” hack at the school. Ted was a member of Traders at MIT, an undergraduate quantitative finance club. He was a coach and fund raiser for the MIT trading team that went on to win the Rotman’s International Trading Competition in 2011. His summers were dedicated to travel and internships with various financial companies in Minneapolis, New York City, Chicago and Boston. After graduation, Ted moved to Chicago and began his career in finance. He left that arena and developed a consulting business, allowing him to work with many new ventures as well as develop his own concepts. Theodore was indeed a multifaceted individual. He was extraordinarily gifted and loved to be around other like-minded people. Some of his interests included history, all sciences, finance, and anything else he felt was complicated, complex, or difficult. He relished the challenge. He enjoyed his family, downhill skiing and traveling the world with friends. He loved to research and learn. Most recently his attention had been on Covid solutions, with Ted leading many worldwide forums to make Covid manageable and survivable. “He was a selfless and dedicated humanitarian that helped and saved countless others during the pandemic.” Ted would do anything for those around him. He was generous and kind; he loved fiercely and had a witty sense of humor. If a question or problem arose, he was the first to say, “give me a moment to research” and would then come back with abundant details, relevant options, and applicable solutions. He would routinely do this for all who asked. He was our Son, Brother, Grandson, Nephew, Cousin, and Friend; we loved him deeply and miss him greatly. Theodore is survived by his parents, his brothers Colin and Tyler, his grandfather Harold Fischer, as well as aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by his grandmother Mary Ann Fischer and his grandparents Ralph and Emma Hilk. Ted passed away unexpectedly at his home in Chicago, IL on March 22, 2021 at the age of 30. Godspeed Ted, you are with your Lord and Savior, walking in eternal light. His family would like to thank everyone for the love and support they have received during this very difficult time. For those unable to attend, the memorial service will be streamed on Facebook Live from the Alden-Harrington Funeral Home Facebook Page at www.aldenharrington.com Condolences and tributes that were made on the Andersen Morgan Funeral Home in Chicago are available at this link.
