James Boyd "Jim" Denney

James Boyd “Jim” Denney, age 85, of Knoxville, formerly of Milan, Tennessee went to be with his Lord on Monday afternoon, July 26, 2021, at his home surrounded by his family. Jim attended Milan High School and graduated from Columbia Military Academy. He attended the University of Tennessee and graduated with a degree in Industrial Management. He was a life-long member of Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity. After a tour with the United States Army, he spent his career as a Special Agent with the FBI. He was an avid Tennessee Vol and Green Bay Packer fan. Jim is preceded in death by his parents, Benjamin Gregory Denney and Martha Sims Denney and his brother, Ben Denney. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Mary Sue Speake Denney; children, Benjamin Allen Denney, LeeAnn Denney Summer, Susannah Lynn Denney and James Christian Denney; grandchildren, Alyssa, Greg, and Sarah Denney, Sean and Dylan Summer, Kinleigh Grace Denney; nephew, Kevin Francis Xavier Denney. Family and friends will gather at 12:30 p.m. on Thursday at the East Tennessee State Veteran’s Cemetery with full military honors conferred by the Volunteer State Veteran’s Honor Guard and the U S Army. The family will received friends from 3 to 4 p.m. on Thursday at Ebenezer United Methodist Church with a Celebration of Life to follow at 4 p.m. with Rev. Tim Paul officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to www.carrytheload.org. Carry The Load is a non-profit organization that provides an active way to connect Americans to the sacrifices made daily by our military, veterans, first responders and their families.
