David C. Newman Sparks, Nevada Obituary

David C. Newman

It is with great sadness that the family of David Newman announce his passing on the evening of Wednesday, June 16, 2021, at the age of 54. Dave will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 32 years, Tracy and his children Chris, Caren (Shane), and Charles (and Harlee). He will also be fondly remembered by his three grandchildren, Brenna, Jojo and Maddie along with his parents Donna and Harvey Biggs. His brother Tony Biggs and his nephews Lane, Matthew and Teddy will join them in fond rememberance of Dave along with his Aunt Alberta Schurtz and his sister in law Patti Tillery and his nephew Bill Rivera. Dave will also be forever remembered by his extended family and dear friends. Dave is proceded in death by his father, Charles Nathaniel Newman. Dave was born on September 22, 1966 at St Marys Hospital in Reno, Nevada. He grew up in Golden Valley riding his motorcycle, raising 4-H animals and harrasing his little brother. His grandparents lived in Canby, Oregon and they moved up there his sophmore year. While in high school he worked at both a cabinet making shop and a metal fabrication shop. He graduated from Canby High School as did his mom and lots of his cousins. Soon after high school he was attending community college and decided to join the Marine Corps. Early in his career he was a member of the Amphibious Warfare Presentation Team. He traveled 92,000 flight miles a year seeing the world. Dave and Tracy met working at a pizza place while he was busy traveling. They dated for a short time and he got orders for recruiting duty in Portland, Oregon. She joined him as he was stationed in Portland. They were married and he spent seven years on Recruiting Duty with him spending a year in Iwaukuni Japan in the middle of it. From there they went to Jacksonville, North Carolina and then to Bridgeport, California where they settled down and he retired from the Mountain Warfare Training Center. Dave left work one day in his cammies and came back the next day in civilain attire to the same job. He spent several years there and then took the job of the Business Manager for the base in Guantanimo Bay, Cuba. After spending several years there he returned to the states and went to work at Head Quarters Marine Corps. He spent six years there working in their Human Resources department. In 2015 we moved back to Walker, California and he became a leader in the human resource department of the VA hospital in Reno, Nevada. Although he had a crusty exterior to cover for his "Gunny" mentality, he had a kind heart, a sweetness if you will especially when it came to the Lord (and his grandbabies!). Dave was a loving father and a doting Poppa. He could always been found at the kids events. Dave spent the better part of his life serving in mens ministries. He truly enjoyed his time in Iron Men and Noble Warriors and during that time was baptized again to reaffirm his faith. He spent time as a bible study leader and he and his wife, Tracy hosted bible studies in their home for years. Dave went on to become an ordaned minister. He was absolutley delighted to officiate his daugther, Caren and Shane's wedding. Dave loved fishing, hunting, shooting, boating, camping and being in God's country. He shared his love for the Sierras and these things with his children, his grandchildren as well as his friends. He thoroughly enjoyed living and being in the Sierras. His life long dream/goal was to one day walk the Pacific Coast Trail. Tracy has promised him with all that she is to get him there. Dave was truly a great man whose impact will forever be felt by his family that loves him dearly, his friends and co workers who hold him in high regards, and his brothers and sisters in Christ who know they will see each other again. He was a selfless man whose passing has left a hole that only he can fill. His ability to love, sacrifice, provide, support and forgive will forever be lessons to all he knew. A celebration of Dave's life will be held in Canby, Oregon on Saturday, July 31 at 2pm at Canby Christian Church, 444 N Holly Street Canby, Oregon. If you would like to send flowers Hulbert's Flowers is prepared to handle it. They can be reached at 503) 266-2282. In addition to his service with his family we will be holding a Celebration of Life for Dave the week of his birthday in our hometown of Walker, California on Saturday, September 25 at 2pm. He loves a good birthday party but the cake better be peanut butter! It will be held at the Antelope Valley (Walker) Community Center at 442 Mule Deer Road Coleville, California. There will be more information to come on this event. Dave we will always carry your memory in our hearts.
