William G. Stonebraker Obituary

William G. 'Bill' Stonebraker

Nov. 21, 1939 –July 26, 2021

William G. "Bill" Stonebraker, 81, of Altoona, passed away Monday. He was born in Johnstown, son of the late William and Ruth (Gilmour) Stonebraker.

He is survived by two daughters: Jill Sutt and her husband Jason, and Susan Mikesic and her husband Anthony; four grandchildren: Adam Mikesic, and Thomas, Madeline and Nicholas Sutt; a sister: Elizabeth Brooks and her husband William; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Janet Kavanaugh; and his fiance, Sara Ann “Sally” Appleton.

Bill graduated from Dale High School in 1957 and served in the U.S. Navy until 1960. He was an entrepreneur and owned several tire businesses prior to becoming a self-employed Certified Real Estate Appraiser for over 30 years.

He was a very well-liked and friendly guy who always had a smile on his face. Above all else, he enjoyed spending time with his daughters and their families. Bill was also an avid reader, often finishing two or more novels each week. He was a free spirit and was always looking for ways to make life and himself more interesting. He took flying lessons, cooking lessons, became a Certified Beekeeper, traveled extensively and studied French later in life. He spent as much time fishing as possible and was a member of the Independent Bassmasters fishing club.

Bill was a great mentor and best friend to his two girls, and they will miss their daily talks with him and his fatherly advice. He adored his grandchildren and he will be sorely missed by them along with everyone else.

He was a member of the Lutheran Church, a 50-year member of the Jaffa Shrine, and a 32nd degree Scottish Rite Freemason.

Family and friends will be received Wednesday, July 28, 2021 from noon until the 2 p.m. funeral service at The Good Funeral Home Inc., Altoona, followed by a graveside service at Alto-Reste Park.

In lieu of flowers, please feel free to make donations to the Lewy Body Dementia Association (www.lbda.org) in memory of Bill.
