Gary Wayne Long, Sr., 72, of Accident, MD, died Monday, July 26, 2021, at Mon Health, Morgantown, WV. Born January 28, 1949, in Mt. Lake Park, MD, he was the son of the late Lawrence A. and Eva J. (Vincent) Long. He was also preceded in death by one brother, Lawrence Edward Long. Mr. Long was a correctional officer for Western Corrections, a bottler for Coca-Cola, Oakland and a police officer for the Town of Oakland. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War and a member of Accident Post 208, American Legion. Gary was a member of the House of Prayer, Somerset, PA. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Alice S. (Hockman) Long; two sons, Gary W. Long, Jr., Cumberland, MD; James M. “JR” Thomas, Grantsville, MD; three daughters, Angela Long, Morgantown; Linda S. (fiancé, Wayne Evans) Thomas, Accident; Elizabeth F. (James) Whiteside, Accident; five grandchildren, Keaton Thomas, Taylor Nickelson, Arizona Thomas, Isabel and Noah Whiteside; two great-grandchildren, Brayden Mitchell and Amya Mitchell. Friends will be received at the Newman Funeral Homes, P.A., 179 Miller St., Grantsville, on Wednesday from 6-8 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted in the funeral home on Thursday, July 29, 2021, at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Jason Upton and the Rev. James Whiteside officiating. Interment will be in the Long Family Cemetery. Military graveside rites will be accorded by Accident Post 208, American Legion.
