Ferron: Robert Madison Mead, age 82 got his wish and died peacefully in his bed Friday, July 23, 2021. He was born December 16, 1938 the oldest of four children born to Edgar and Myra Mead in Havre, Montana. He married Mary Irene Merkley on May 18, 1962 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Robert was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, and served in many callings including bishop where he influenced many peoples lives. He served a mission at age 20 to Finland. He worked in the Manti Temple with his wife for over 10 years and together they served 5 missions. He loved music and was blessed with a rich tenor singing voice; he and Irene sang many duets together. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather who always put the needs of others before his own. At the age of 17 he joined the Utah National Guard 119th infantry out of American Fork, where he became a Green Beret and learned how to jump out of airplanes. He worked many odd jobs growing up, Ice plant with his best friends Kent and Brent Roberts, picking cherries, pouring basement foundations just to mention a few. A friend eventually got him hired on with the American Fork police department where he worked for 3 years. He then took a job with the Utah Highway Patrol and worked for them until he retired 20 years later. He then drove tour buses for a few years until taking a job working for the F.M. group (The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints building maintenance division) where he worked 10 years before retiring officially. He was a lover of the outdoors. The mountains were one of his favorite places to be. He taught his sons all he knew about Elk, Duck, Rabbit, and Deer hunting. Fishing was a big part of his life, taking the boys and many friends, especially late in life on a weekly basis with John and Bill. He also taught the boys to water ski, swim and the love of playing in the water. He was a supporter of BYU sports attending games and on TV. GO COUGARS!!!! He is survived by 5 sons. Bliss Mead of Price, Chad (Holly) Mead of Price, Dell (Stephnie) Mead of Ferron, Russ (Cherie) Mead of Ferron and Quinn (Kristy) Mead of Eagle Mountain, 21 Grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren, siblings Cheryl of Oregon, Laurence Mead of Alaska. Preceded in death by his parents, Sister Laurel, and his wife Irene. Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 31, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at the Ferron LDS Stake Center, 555 South 400 West. A viewing will be held Friday, July 30, 2021 from 6-8 p.m. at the Ferron Stake Center and on Saturday July 31, 2021 from 9:00 to 10:30 a.m. at the church prior to the services. Funeral will be live-streamed on Fausett Mortuary Facebook page. Interment will be in the Ferron City Cemetery. Services are in the care of Fausett Mortuary.
