Michael & Nancy Anderson Obituary

Nancy Irene Anderson, age 58, of Annandale, Virginia passed away peacefully on Friday, July 23, 2021. Michael Webster Anderson, age 62, of Annandale, Virginia passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 29, 2021. Nancy was born on August 1, 1962 in Fairfax, Virginia to Vincent Arthur Hyndman and Iva Laverne (Bell) Hyndman. She was the youngest of three children, and lived her entire life within the northern Virginia area. Nancy attended West Springfield High School (class of 1980). After graduating from high school, Nancy attended Northern Virginia Community College and received an associates degree in Commercial Art Photography. Nancy’s stunning photographic work was featured in the Washington Post shortly after graduation. From there, Nancy worked at a photo lab until she met her wonderful husband, Michael. Michael was born on October 14, 1958 in Honolulu, Hawaii to Curtis Odean Anderson and Martha Ann (Mumby) Anderson-Graul. He was the middle of five children, and his family moved often from coast to coast while his father served as a captain in the United States Navy. Michael graduated from Robinson High School in 1976, and at age eighteen chose to stay in the northern Virginia area while his family moved back to San Diego, CA for their next tour. He resided in northern Virginia for the remainder of his life. Michael and Nancy met in 1983 and made an instant connection. They were married on November 14, 1987 and were happily married for over 33 years. Nancy and Michael raised two children together, Allison and Todd. Throughout their lives, Nancy and Michael would talk about their childrens’ accomplishments often; they were very, very proud of both of them. Nancy worked at Freddie Mac for over twenty years, most recently as a senior business analyst. She began her career as a secretary and worked persistently to ‘climb the corporate ladder.’ She was a source of laughter and joy to her many treasured colleagues throughout the years. Michael first worked as a carpenter and then found his passion for glass installation while working for Cherrydale Glass Company in the early 1980s. Eventually, Michael started his own glass company called Cavalier Glass and was well renowned throughout the area. Once his children were in elementary school, Michael became a stay-at-home father. Michael and his children would eat homemade breakfasts and watch television shows together in the mornings before elementary school. Nancy loved big hugs from her children and husband, family beach trips to Oak Island, NC, hot cups of coffee, dancing to oldies music, and riding with the windows down in her Jeep. Michael loved listening to classic rock (specifically Creedence Clearwater Revival, The Rolling Stones, and Eric Clapton), cooking dinner for his family, and admiring the beauty of nature. Michael and Nancy are survived by their daughter, Allison Schmidt (Donald) and their son’s daughter (their granddaughter), Grace Lee Anderson. Nancy is also survived by her sister, Donna Hyndman Brown; niece, Emily Brown; and nephew, Kevin Brown. Michael is also survived by his brother, Mark Anderson (Joyann); sister, Martha Anderson; sister, Mary Dominick (Michael); and sister, Marne Smith (Thomas); as well as countless nieces and nephews. A combined Celebration of Life Service will be held on August 21, 2021 at 1:00 pm at Fairfax Memorial Home in Fairfax, VA. Their daughter, Ally, hopes to honor Nancy and Michael’s legacy and love together (as they would want). Interment will be private with just family and close friends. Peace and love. xoxo
