Evelyn Alydia Trovinger

Evelyn Alydia Trovinger, 97, of Hagerstown, passed away on Saturday, July 24, 2021. Born on April 2, 1924 in New York City, Evelyn was the daughter of the late John C. and Alydia E.(Rauscher) Schuler. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Frank Trovinger in 1985, and her brother, John E. Schuler in 2008. Evelyn attended and graduated from schools in Perth Amboy, NJ and earned a Bachelor of Science Degree from New Jersey City University in 1945. That same year she acquired a Registered Nurse Certificate. She also obtained a Master of Education Degree from Western Maryland College in 1965. Through the years, she attended the University of Hawaii; Columbia University, NY; University of Maryland, Towson State College; West Virginia University; Frostburg College; and Shepherd College. During WW II, she was a Nurse Cadet at Jersey City Medical Center. Evelyn loved her family and living in a beautiful area of Maryland. Much of her life was about nurturing and teaching the students of Marshall St. School and Job Development Center. Evelyn was employed at Jersey City Medical Center; Queens Hospital, Honolulu, HI; Columbia Presbyterian Hospital, New York City; and Washington County Hospital. In the educational field, she taught at Halfway School, North Street School, and Conococheague School. As principal, she opened the Washington County Job Development Center and the Marshall Street Education Center with new programs. She was listed in Who's Who of American Women in 1977-78. She was a member of St. Anne's Church. She belonged to AARP, WCARC, WCRTH, MRTA, the American Legion Auxillary Unit 42, Delta Kappa Gamma, Alumni Association of Jersey City Hospital School of Nursing, and New Jersey City University Foundation, Inc. Evelyn is survived by a son, Mark Frank Trovinger and wife Chin of Sabillasville, MD; and two daughters, Margo Leilani Trovinger of Washington, DC and Marian Griffith of Smithsburg, MD; two grandchildren Christopher John Trovinger, and Lester Emmanuel Trovinger and wife Kayla; great grandchildren, William, Kylynn, and Annalee Trovinger; and many nieces and nephews. Burial services are private and at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Arc of Washington County at 820 Florida Avenue, Hagerstown, MD 21740 or a charity of one's choice. Rest Haven Funeral Home is entrusted with arrangements.
