Betty Welsh Chandler, widow of Joseph M. Chandler, died peacefully on October 28, 2017 at McLeod Hospice House. Daughter of the late Roy & Lillie Belle Welsh, she was born in Olanta, SC on March 25, 1928. Mrs. Chandler attended the University of South Carolina and worked for USC and Gallop Polls in medical research. She was also a Realtor in Florence for 25 years. She was an active member of First Baptist Church of Florence, where she taught Sunday school and worked in the TV ministry. A member of the Florence Literary Club and Garden Club, she was loved and admired by everyone who met her. Mrs. Chandler is survived by her daughters Joanne C. Prosser (Larry) of Murrells Inlet and Kay C. DeBerry (Jim) of Effingham; son Ronald S. Chandler of Florence; grandchildren Chad Prosser (Suzanne) of Murrells Inlet, Micah Chandler and Jared Chandler of Florence, Brandon DeBerry of Effingham and Cole DeBerry of Pigeon Forge, TN, as well as, ten great-grandchildren. She is also survived by a sister, Dorothy J. Gibbons of New Zion, and pre-deceased by a grandson, Matthew Seth Prosser. The family will receive visitors from 12:30 pm on November 1, 2017, and funeral services will follow at 2 pm at First Baptist Church of Florence, directed by Floyd Funeral Home of Olanta. The Rev. Robin Keels will officiate. Burial will follow at Olanta Baptist Cemetary. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be made to First Baptist Church, 300 S. Irby St., Florence, SC 29501.
