Izoria Sheppard Gordon

Izoria Sheppard Gordon died on Thursday, July 22, 2021, at Arbor Acres Retirement Community. She was born in Patrick County, Virginia, to Henry Irvin Sheppard and Minnie Corns Sheppard on March 22, 1928. She received her BA degree from Appalachian State University and her Masters of Education from UNC-Greensboro. While at Appalachian, she was a member of the 1899 Legacy Society, the Rhododendron Society and the BB Dougherty Society. Izoria taught in the Winston-Salem Forsyth County Schools for 32 years and loved teaching. She provided financial support to students at Forsyth Technical Institute, UNC-Greensboro and Appalachian State University. She considered herself fortunate to be able to help young adults who could do better in life, but did not have the means to do so. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ivey Bryce Gordon, and her brother, Joel Henry Sheppard. She is survived by three nieces, Ann Robertson of Danbury, NC; Tammy Smith of Stuart, Virginia; and Gloria Rakes of Stuart, Virginia. There will be a graveside service held at Forsyth Memorial Park on Monday, July 26, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. The Rev. Laura Lee Jones will officiate. The family will receive friends Sunday, July 25, 2021 from 2:00-4:00 p.m. at Salem Main Street Chapel.
