Katherine (Kitty) Priscilla Markey passed away at Lehigh Valley Hospital in East Stroudsburg, PA on Sunday July 18, 2021. She was preceded in death by her parents, John Charles Markey, Sr. and Adelle Goode and her brother John Charles Markey, Jr. MD. Kitty is survived by her husband of 23 years Anthony Alfortish, nephew Tate Markey, nieces Raegan & Katie Markey and step-daughters Amy Alfortish-Yamada, her husband (Yogi) and their son Tai & Allison Mooring, her husband (Mark) and their children Alex and Isabella. Kitty grew up in Lake Providence, LA and attended high school at The Academy of the Sacred Heart in Grand Coteau, LA. Upon graduation Kitty attended Northeast University in Monroe, LA where she graduated with a BS in Education. Upon graduation Kitty moved to New Orleans and accepted a position with the Jefferson Parish School System where she worked for 22 years. During Kitty’s tenure with the Jefferson Parish School System, she earned a Master’s Degree in Education from Southeastern University in Hamond and additionally accepted a promotion into administration. Kitty then started her second career as an educational consultant with Houghton-Mifflin Book Publishers where she worked until her retirement. Kitty’s two overwhelming loves were her adopted grandchildren Jacob & Matthew Winfield, who were the light in her eyes. Additionally, Kitty enjoyed travel with her husband often accompanied by her best friends Kay & Pat Norman. During some 25 or so years of globe hopping, Kitty saw most of Europe, Russia, Asia and the best parts of the United States.
Family and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Mass on Tuesday, July 27, 2021 at 12:15 PM in the J. Garic Schoen Chapel of Jacob Schoen & Son, 3827 Canal Street, New Orleans, LA 70119. Visitation will begin at 10:30 AM.  Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery.
