Martha Ann Walters Middleton, Wisconsin Obituary

Martha Ann Walters

MADISON - Martha Ann Walters, age 92, passed away peacefully at her Madison home on Wednesday, July 21, 2021, surrounded by her family. Her last moments were spent with individual family members’ hands interlocked with hers in a peaceful repose. She is survived by her husband of 67 years, Robert E. Walters; her children, William Walters (Julie Allen), Robert Walters (Sue Abplanalp) and Lynne Dirienzo (David); grandchildren, Rose Walters, Rob (Samantha) Walters, Tiffany (Jason) Lord, Brittany Walters, Amber Walters, D.J. Dirienzo, Andrew (Amanda) Dirienzo and Morgan Dirienzo; and great-grandchildren, William, Emma and Charlotte Walters. Martha was born in Redstone, Penn., the daughter of a coal miner. She was the last surviving member of nine children. She was affectionately known as the “Candy Lady” and, like her sister, her purse always had room for treats. Her treat of choice was the turtle bar, and anyone and everyone would receive one - receptionists to physicians, waitstaff to managers and store checkers, to name a few. She was always willing to share her sweet tooth. Martha was an avid reader. She was proud of her little library and when not reading, she never saw a crossword puzzle she didn’t love. She would relax in her most comfortable chair, immersing herself in one or the other depending on the mood. Both activities were her passions. Martha will be laid to rest at Roselawn Memorial Park, with a private service for immediate family. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to an organization or charity of your choice.
