Marilyn Alice Kerwin Syracuse, New York Obituary

Marilyn Alice Kerwin

Marilyn Alice Kerwin, 69, passed away Thursday July 22, 2021 after a short illness. Marilyn was born in Auburn, NY on July 17, 1952 to James D. O’Neill and Theresa Frank O’Neill. She graduated from Jordan-Elbridge High School in 1970 and then attended Oneonta State where she graduated in 1974. After leaving Oneonta she decided to give the “big” city life a try and moved to Syracuse. It was there that she met and married her husband, Ted, in 1983. When they met Marilyn was working as a paralegal at the Small Business Administration, but when their first child was born she decided to leave her job to be at home with the children. She got involved with the PTO at Roberts School and eventually became president of the organization. This position was a stepping stone to getting her Masters in Education at S.U. in 1998. She then worked as a guidance counselor at Corcoran High School. It was there that she helped countless students and made many friends. Marilyn loved her family, her friends, the Adirondacks, music, hiking, canoeing, golf (when the ball stays in bounds), reading and “Grey’s Anatomy”. She was loved and admired by all who knew her. Marilyn is predeceased by her parents and a brother, Thomas M. O’Neill. Marilyn is survived by her husband, Ted; children, Bryan, Tim (Trina) and Megan; sisters, Patricia (Ed) Connell, Elise; brothers, Robert (Nancy) and James as well as grandchildren Sarai and Tim. We are grateful for the care she received at Crouse Hospital and Francis House. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday July 27, 2021 at noon at Most Holy Rosary Church, Syracuse. Calling hours will be held Monday July 26, 2021 from 4-7pm at the Edward J. Ryan & Son Funeral Home, 3180 Bellevue Ave, Syracuse. Burial will be in Onondaga County Veterans Cemetery immediately following mass. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Francis House, 108 Michaels Avenue Syracuse, NY 13208.
