Kenneth Melzak Obituary

Kenneth “Ken” Irving Melzak, 72, of Toledo, passed away Wednesday, July 21, 2021, with his loving family by his side. He was born in Toledo to Joseph and Jeanne (Babionne) Melzak on August 20, 1948. Ken married his loving wife, Julie Mathews, and together they had four children. Ken was a family man; he always put his children first. Together, they enjoyed countless trips to the beach—whether it was Florida, Virginia, or South Carolina. The family also cherished their Father’s Day trips to Cedar Point, where Ken wouldn’t ride the rides, but he loved seeing his children enjoy themselves. Music was important to Ken; he loved his 80’s hits, especially Journey and Heart. Ken loved animals and enjoyed all movies. He had many unique interests such as meteorology, astrology, sports stats, and mathematics. Being the numbers man that he was, Ken was able to track sports stats in his head for every sporting event he went to; his favorites being the Cleveland Indians and Detroit Red Wings. Ultimately, Ken created his own family league of whiffle ball–naturally, Ken was the stat keeper. In 1970, Ken earned a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting from the University of Toledo. He originally worked as an accountant before joining and eventually operating and then owning his in-laws’ family business, Allied Gear and Sprocket Co. He loved Pina Coladas, playing cards, and being with his family. Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Julie; children, Matt (Caitlyn) Melzak, Jen (Keevan) Hazel, Amanda (Gregg) Boeke, Mike (Jenny) Melzak; grandchildren, Noah Boeke, Logan Boeke, Fox Hazel, Sam Melzak, Fawn Hazel, Charlie Melzak; brother, Wayne Melzak; and countless friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Brian Melzak. Friends and family will be received on Monday, July 26, 2021, from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Walker Funeral Home, 5155 W. Sylvania Ave., Toledo, OH 43623 (419-841-2422), where a Scripture Service will begin at 7:00 p.m. A Funeral Mass will take place on Tuesday, July 27, 2021, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Patrick of Heatherdowns, 4201 Heatherdowns Blvd., Toledo, OH. Burial will follow in Resurrection Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations be made to the Toledo Area Humane Society, 827 Illinois Ave., Maumee, OH 43537 or to the American Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 7023 Merrifield, VA 22116.
