Madeline (Heitzman) Troyer, 88, passed from this life to her Savior's presence on Wednesday, July 21, 2021 at the Walnut Hills Nursing Home in Walnut Creek, Ohio after a brief illness. She was born on January 25, 1933, in Kansas City, Kansas to the late Raymond and Pearl (Dalton) Heitzman. Madeline was a devoted wife, deeply loved mother, grandmother, sister and friend. Most of all, she was a follower of Jesus and a woman of prayer. She treasured participating in and leading Bible studies, praying for missionaries with her church prayer group, refurbishing antique trunks, walking for recreation, rooting for the Cleveland Cavaliers, cheering for the underdog in any sporting event and serving her children and grandchildren. Madeline attended Prairie Bible Institute in Alberta, Canada where she met her late husband, Les, and they married on Sept. 23, 1955. Together they served with Wycliffe Bible Translators for 25 years in the Philippines; Kathmandu, Nepal; and in Washington, D.C. They relocated to Sugarcreek, Ohio in 1980 and moved again to Boone, North Carolina in 1989, returning to the Sugarcreek area for good in 1998. She was a faithful caregiver to her husband in his final years, before his passing in 2012. Madeline was a member of the Dover Alliance Church (Dover, Ohio) and dearly loved her church and the relationships she built there. She was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease in December of 2013. Madeline is survived by her five children, Paul (Giselle Wockenfuss) Troyer of Sarasota, Fla.; Tim (Christina Yoder) Troyer of Sugarcreek; Marilyn Troyer of Columbus, Ohio; Kimberly (Tim) Mitchell, international workers in Asia, Kristina (Mike) Warkall of Sugarcreek; and former daughter-in-law Traci Troyer of Bradenton, Florida. She is the beloved grandmother of Brandon Troyer, Matthew Troyer, Micah Troyer, Raeannon Hendershott, Sam Troyer, Andrew Mitchell, Abigail Mitchell, Peter Mitchell, Joe Warkall, Luke Warkall, Emma Warkall and she had seven great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother, Paul (Marilyn) Heitzman of Eudora, Kansas; sister-in-law Ina Yoder of Delaware, Ohio; dear friend Karen Warkall of Walnut Creek, Ohio; and a large number of nieces and nephews. Services will be held on Monday, July 26, 2021 at 10 a.m. at the Dover Alliance Church with Rev. Bruce Sexton officiating. A luncheon will be provided, with burial to follow at Union Hill Cemetery at Sugarcreek. Friends may call on Sunday (July 25) from 2-4 p.m. at Smith-Varns Funeral Home in Sugarcreek.
