Carrie Belle Brookshire New Haven, Connecticut Obituary

Carrie Belle Brookshire

Our beloved Carrie Belle Sledge Brookshire departed this life on Monday, July 19, 2021, at the age of 90. At that time, she was reunited in Heaven with her cherished daughters, Margaret, Kathy and Barbara. Carrie was born on October 14, 1930, to the late Joseph Sledge and Viola Willis Sledge, of Louisiana. She was briefly married to Izor Franklin Brookshire and through this union, they shared six children. Carrie resiliently raised her children independently for many years. Izor Brookshire died in 2012. Prior to retirement, Carrie worked very hard as an employee of the Veterans Affairs Medical Center (VA Hospital) in West Haven, CT as a Dietary Aide for approximately 20 years. Many of Carrie's loved ones affectionately called her "Mama" or "Dot" throughout her life. Mama was also a caring woman who raised her grandson, Corey Brookshire into adulthood while simultaneously coping with the sudden loss of his Mother, Margaret Brookshire. Describing Mama as a generous person is an understatement, as she would often go above and beyond to help her family. She was a patient woman who enjoyed completing a good puzzle in her spare time and watching her favorite team, the New York Yankees on television. In her earlier years, she also spent her free time gardening and baking cakes for her family. Mama is survived by her three children, Stella Robertson, Donna Brookshire and Frankie Dail (Evelyn) Brookshire Sr. of Connecticut. Mama was loved by a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends. Carrie is also survived by a Brother, Julius Sledge. Carrie is predeceased by Annabelle, Mabel, Leola, Laura, Huey, Woodrow, Clyde Sr., Jessie, James, Joseph Jr., Warner and Don. Carrie was a strong believer in her faith, reading her Bible regularly and enjoying her favorite gospel song, "Never Would Have Made It" by Marvin Sapp.
