Gertrude "Amy" Coker Obituary

It is with great sadness that we are sharing with all of you the passing of Gertrude “Amy” Coker. On July 19, 2021, she passed away peacefully in the early morning hours with family by her side. Born Amy Pyke in Toronto, Ontario to Robert and Mary Pyke, she is predeceased by her sisters, Mildred, Helen, Marie, Audrey; her brother Bobby; and step brother Clyde. On March 24, 1951 Amy married her late husband, Lawrence Coker. She is survived by her son Lawrence Stephen Coker (Helen Coker); her two granddaughters Heather Klekta (Sebastian Esche) and Christina Sands (Maury Dodd); and great grandson Kaiden Klekta.

Amy lived a beautiful life in Toronto where Larry proposed to her in High Park. Later they moved to Huntsville in Muskoka District. She had many different careers and enjoyed her work at Kodak. Amy and Larry both enjoyed time spent together travelling and camping across Canada and the United States. They often visited the family hunting camp and loved being with all their friends and family at all the reunions, birthdays, weddings, graduations and other social events. They loved to dress up, especially at Halloween and brought joy and laughter to everyone around them.

In 2017, Amy travelled to Calgary, Alberta to be with family and watch her great grandson grow up. She travelled around the city, saw the mountains, enjoyed Thanksgivings at the corn maze, attended school concerts and made new friends during her life out West.

We would like to thank all her friends and family, for all the love, support and prayers during the past few weeks. She was a woman like no other, as she gave unconditional love to all and asked for nothing in return. She was an inspiring, genuine, beautiful, pure soul filled with love and light that she shared with all of us. Amy touched many lives and helped raise and inspire many generations.

Thank you Amy for all the love and beauty you shared with us. You will never be forgotten and your legacy of love will continue through each and every life you touched.

Love and light to all.

In lieu of flowers, please feel free to make a donation in Amy's memory to Diabetes Canada (https://www.diabetes.ca/).
