Velma Fern Morrison Mathews, 97, of Shepherdstown, passed away on Wednesday, July 21, 2021. Born March 30, 1924 in Hagerstown, MD, she was the daughter of the late Thomas Norton Morrison and Hettie Belle Grove Morrison. Mrs. Mathews was a member of the Second Baptist Church in Martinsburg. Fern was an animal lover and a gardener. She is survived by her daughter, Brenda K. Marshall, (James Leroy Williams); two grandchildren, Bridgette Kelly Brown, (Len Rowe) and Meghan H. Marshall, (Anthony Lucas); one great-granddaughter, Cecily Lucas; three brothers, Thomas C. Morrison, Lyle E. Morrison, (Ruby) and Dean G. Morrison, (Mary Jane). She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond H. Mathews; one brother, Linwood L. Morrison; and one infant sister, Janice Morrison.; two sisters in law, Louise and Nellie Mae. Services will be announced at a future date.
