Avis Faith Moore San Antonio, Texas Obituary

Avis Faith Moore

Avis Faith Moore went to be with her Lord and Savior Sunday July 18, 2021, at her home in San Antonio, Texas. She was born May 24, 1940, in Clinton Mississippi. She is survived by Pat Taylor her friend of over 40 years, her son Joseph Moore, Amy Moore her daughter in law and Elianna Moore her granddaughter all who live here in San Antonio Texas. She was preceded in death by her Father Henry Joseph Bettag and her mother Mildred Greer Bettag. Avis was a lifelong Methodist of 81 years. Throughout the years this wonderful servant acted as a choir director, both youth and adult. She was known for her beautiful soprano voice. During this time, she also was a devoted youth minister and a youth pastor, leading many mission trips. Ordained later as a diaconal minister she continued to serve and assist as lay leader. Avis served in churches in Moutain Home and North Little Rock Arkansas. Later, she moved to San Antonio, Texas to serve the rest of her days singing in the choir, teaching in the Women of Faith Bible study and directing the Hearts in Tune Choir. She was active for many years as well in the Emmaus Community. She gave everything to serve people, to give love and to share her love of God to others. She worked for the NPR affiliate KUAR/KLRE in Little Rock Arkansas as the business manager and as an on-site reporter. As a producer she won a coveted Gracie award for her programming. Avis loved classical music and music in general and enhanced the radio station with this knowledge. Avis also worked many funds drives to make the radio station a success. Many of station staff knew her as the go-to person for fixing and installing equipment or just about anything. Avis was passionate about women’s rights (her great grandmother was a Suffragette) and she became actively involved in (BPW) Business and Professional Women with her lifelong friend Pat Taylor. Avis played many roles in BPW and was elected to the position of Arkansas State President, ( BPW). She spent many years alongside Pat Taylor, working to support BPW causes on state and national level. She was proud to help support Pat’s efforts in eventually becoming BPW USA National President. Those who knew Avis will have many a story to tell and we shall let them. Avis gave 110% till the end of life. She Touched countless lives whether it was her singing or directing music or when she played her guitar. Love and laughter were found around her as she was repairing a house on a reservation or in clearing a part of the Appalachian Trail, or teaching vacation bible school in Jamaica, West Indies. A story read on air, a speech from a lectern or a prayerful sermon or scripture reading from a pulpit were always given with joy and passion. We miss your voice. We miss your sweet eyes and soft smile. Avis, you were the definition of Grace, Wisdom, Love and most of all Faith. Well done, Good and Faithful servant. In lieu of flowers please donate to your Local NPR or UMCOR.
