Mildred S. "Millie" Johnson Obituary

Canandaigua – Mildred S. “Millie” Johnson, age 91, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 18, 2021. She is survived by four children, Jennifer (Dick) Beck, Jeffrey (Mary Beth) Johnson, Susan (Frank) Fitzgerald and Todd (Julie) Johnson; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband of 56 years, Frederic B. Johnson in 2007; and two sisters, Anna Billett and Hellen Gorse. Millie was born in Harrisburg, PA and was the daughter of Steve and Mary (Peiffer) Suzic. She graduated from John Harris High School in Harrisburg, class of 1947. Millie earned a bachelor’s degree in education from Syracuse University, class of 1951, where she was a member of Alpha Phi National Sorority. She and Fred, high school sweethearts, were married June 9, 1951, in Harrisburg. They moved to Canandaigua in 1955. Millie was a substitute teacher at Canandaigua Academy for many years and was a local real estate agent for more than 30 years. She was an active member of the First United Methodist Church and was a former trustee there. Millie was a member of the Board of Directors of Ontario County Children’s Home for over 40 years. She enjoyed bridge, reading, quilting, knitting, travel and spending time with family and friends. The family will receive friends on Saturday, August 21, from 9:30 am – 11:00 am, at the First United Methodist Church, 100 N. Main St., Canandaigua. Her memorial service will follow the visitation at the church. Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Canandaigua. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church, 100 N. Main St., Canandaigua, NY 14424 or Clark Manor House, 318 Fort Hill Ave., Canandaigua, NY 14424.
