Jon Allen Riley Obituary

Jon Allen Riley, Senior was born to William Herbert and Helen May (Colbert) Riley on November 11, 1948, in Roaring Springs, Pennsylvania, passed away on July 17, 2021. Jon served in the United States Army for 21 years from 1968 to 1989; serving in numerous places including Germany for 6 years. He retired at Fort Carson, Colorado, becoming a long-time resident of Security, Colorado. Jon was a lifetime member of the VFW and the American Legion. After retirement, he worked at Checks Unlimited in Colorado before transferring to Kansas in 2009, and later became a school bus driver serving the Olathe, Kansas area. Jon was involved in Boy Scouts for over 35 years, serving as Scout Leader, Quartermaster for various troops and NYLT training, National Jamboree volunteer, and God and Country instructor. He was a member of the Order of the Arrow, a Wood Badge graduate (Bobwhite) and staff member. Jon received numerous scouting awards: District Award of Merit, Silver Beaver recipient, and James E. West Fellow. He also volunteered at his church as a greeter, communion server, coffee bar host, and vacation bible school volunteer. When Jon was not working or volunteering, he enjoyed supporting his children and grandchildren at all their events, including baseball, football, swimming, soccer, track and field, and bowling. He listened to talk radio, took their huskies: Chinook, Sandy, Brownie, and Rusty on daily walks, and watched sports; specifically, the Pittsburgh Steelers, Penguins, Pirates, and Penn State Football. He was a true fan no matter how the season was going. Jon was an avid hunter and shared his love of the sport with his family and friends. Jon is survived by his wife of 51 years, Sally (Brown) Riley; son, Jon Jr. (Jackie) Riley; daughter, Sherrie (David) Baxter; son, Scott (Lindsay) Riley; grandchildren: Jordan Riley, Jon James Riley, and Braden Baxter; siblings: Max (Betty) Riley, Chester “Tim” (Fretta) Riley, Doris (Lewis) Brubaker, Loris (Jim) Phillips, and brother-in-law, C. Eugene (Anna) Smith. Jon is preceded in death by his brothers: William “Bill”, Robert “Bob”, James “Hump”; and sisters, Jeanie Johnson and Mary Jane Smith. In lieu of flowers, please donate to Legacy Christian Church (Olathe, Kansas), Olathe Christian Church (Olathe, Kansas), or Pikes Peak Christian Church (Colorado Springs, Colorado) in Jon’s name. A Funeral Service will be held Friday, July 23, 2021, at 5:00pm, with a viewing at 6:00-7:30pm at Legacy Christian Church, 16000 Black Bob Road, Olathe, Kansas 66062. A second Funeral Service will be held at Pikes Peak Christian Church, 4955 Bradley Road Colorado Springs, Colorado, 80911 on Wednesday, July 28, 2021, with a Private Family Only Viewing 2:30-3:00pm, a Public Viewing 3:00-4:00pm, and a Service 4:00-5:00pm. A Committal Service will take place at Pikes Peak National Cemetery, 10545 Drennan Road Colorado Springs, Colorado, 80925 on Thursday, July 29, 2021, at 2:00pm.
