Leroy was born November 21, 1961, at ECM Hospital in Florence, Alabama, to the parents of Arthur L. McAfee, Sr. and Rosie Mae Green. Leroy’s formal education was in Florence City Schools, Florence, AL. He was involved in baseball and basketball until tragedy struck at age 14. He was involved in a motorcycle accident that changed his life forever. According to his own words, he suffered a sustained injury to his back, legs, feet and toes that ended his dream of playing junior or high school varsity sports. Leroy attended high school at Coffee High School and graduated in 1980. He started working at the age of 15 performing custodial services at both Brandon Elementary and Coffee High School. Leroy had a strong work ethic instilled in him by his maternal grandfather Jewery Green and his father Arthur L. McAfee, Sr. While in high school, he worked forty hours doing part-time work as an apprentice in electrical service wiring with his grandfather and part-time at KFC in north Florence.

He pursued an associate degree from present day Northwest Shoals Community College, in Electricity, in 1985. Leroy was a faithful member in his early years at Bethel Cumberland (BCPCA) Church in Florence, AL.

After marrying the love of his life, in 1987, he was water baptized and joined East Florence M.B. Church under the leadership of the late Rev. Johnnie Marshall. After extended years serving in various leadership positions, he followed his personal beliefs and united in fellowship as a charter member with Free Spirit Bible Baptist Church. He remained a dedicated member until his death under the spiritual leadership of Rev. William Freeman.

Highlights of his life…

While in membership at East Florence M.B. Church, Leroy served as: · General Contractor during design and construction of the 2,500 square foot remodeling addition · Chairman of the Deacon Board · Deacon · Trustee · Sunday School Teacher · a member of the Pulpit Committee.

While engaging in the Quad Cities Community, Leroy: ·Completed 29 years of work at NAFCO by Tarkett · Worked in the shipping department for 20 plus years · 20 years of service awarded at NAFCO by Tarkett 1987-2007 · Numerous electrical jobs as an electrician for over 40 years.

While in membership at Free Spirit Bible Baptist Church, Leroy served as: · Church Trustee · Finance Committee member · New Construction Planning Committee member · Charter member of Free Spirit Bible Baptist Church, instrumental in site development and building of Free Spirit Bible Baptist Church as well as electrical wiring, lighting, and general maintenance.

Leroy is survived by his beloved wife of 32 years TanglyaRenea McAfee; only daughter: Shahra “Shah” McAfee ofMontgomery, AL; sons: Corbett Leroy “Big Hungry” McAfee of Montgomery, AL, Caylen “Fred-Chris Brown” McAfee of Florence, AL; heart adopted son Ricardo “Cardoor” Maston of Tuscaloosa, AL; a devoted mother: Rosie McAfee of Town Creek, AL; stepmother: Esther McAfee of Muscle Shoals, AL;sisters: Teresa (Phil Hembrick) McAfee-Vaughn of Decatur, GA and Amber McAfee of Muscle Shoals, AL; sisters-in-law: JonaHarris of Sheffield, AL, and Lanita Whiteside of Montgomery, AL; brothers: Carl (Danita) McAfee of San Diego, CA and Leroy Jackson of Decatur, AL; brothers-in-law: George (Giselle) Smith of Muscle Shoals, AL, Omega (Diane) Smith of Shreveport, LA, Ronald Lavendar of Los Angeles, CA, Ranald (Bridget) Smith of Muscle Shoals, AL; aunts and uncles: Naomi (Ed) Chatman, Grace Smith, Bertha Skipworth, Julia Hill, Marilyn (Sherman) Morris, Willie Bee (Mildred) McAfee, Thomas (Minnie) McAfee, Phyllis (Cleo) McDaniel; one and only….apple of his eye…granddaughter Vivian Grace Gipson-McAfee; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.

Devoted Family “Soul Food Sundays”: Tamra Vaughn-Terry, Jason Terry, JaiOnna Terry, Colos Vaughn, LaShaunia Guins, and his best little “tap out buddy” Espn Terry.
