Darnell Palmer

Darnell Raymond Palmer was born June 6, 1949 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to the union of Newton and Lillian Palmer. He was the 3rd child out of 4 siblings. He grew up in the Hill District of Pittsburgh, graduated from Schenley High School and went on to Lincoln University. After a few years at Lincoln he returned and worked for HFC Finance Company. He also worked for Port Authority Transit as a bus driver and thereafter went to Electrician school and became a Licensed Electrician. Darnell was a proud member of the IBEW (Internal Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local Union #5, Professional Electricians). He was a member for 35 years. He was especially proud that he was an electrician that observed and could approve another electricians work. Darnell enjoyed his career as an electrician and proudly drove family and friends on tours of the city showing them buildings that he worked on over the years. Darnell was a Trustee of Central Baptist church which he was a member for 39 years. He participated in the Men’s Ministry and the TV Ministry operating cameras for their broadcast on Cornerstone TV. He also drove the van bringing youth and anyone else who needed a ride to church. He was a faithful member and also served helping with the maintenance of the church. In his younger years Darnell enjoyed playing basketball and tennis. He loved to listen to music, going to concerts and traveling to warm destinations. He frequently traveled to visit family, friends and attend family reunions. He never traveled without his camera and took pictures everywhere he went. Darnell is preceded in death by his mother and father and brother, Riebe Palmer. He leaves behind a brother Newton Palmer, Jr (Sacramento, California), sister Patricia Pennywell (Pittsburgh, PA husband Darryl Pennywell) and three nieces Tracy Lozada (Sacramento, CA husband Ray, children Madison and Christian), Mia Pennywell (District of Columbia) and Margeaux Pennywell (Orlando, FL). Darnell had many friends and family who loved him dearly. He will be missed……..
