Athanase Patrice 'Pat' Larade Obituary

Athanase Patrice Larade New Waterford Athanase Patrice “Pat/Pats” Larade, age 80, died peacefully on July 18, 2021. Born in Cheticamp, on May 2, 1941, he was the son of the late Thomas and Zabine (LeFort) Larade. Anyone who knows him well can imagine him walking all he way to heaven, keeping track of directions, and thinking about that time he once played golf nearby. Pat attended seminary as a young man and returned to regular and deeply committed participation in the church community after retirement. He was known throughout his life for his athleticism and in 2019 was inducted into the New Waterford and District Sports Heritage Hall of Fame, as part of the 1958 Mt. Carmel Mounties Baseball Team. Pat is survived by his children Andre (Aly), Arria, Jen; three fabulous grandkids, Keogan, Hazel, and Amber. Pat lived as part of a big and boisterous family, including siblings Annette ‘Netsy’, Lorraine, Theresa, Eddie, their spouses, and many nieces and nephews. He loved and cherished each one. A special shout out goes to niece Tish, with whom he got into a great deal of shenanigans at family gatherings. Pat’s extended family in Margaree offered a second home more than once in his life. And, of course, ‘Chicky’ Desveaux was his steadfast and wonderful friend for seventy years. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his brother Joe ‘Chops’ and his sister Leona. Cremation has taken place. A Funeral Mass will be held in the Parish of Saint Leonard, on Friday, July 23, at 10am, with Father Peter McLeod officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Carmel Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Hospice Palliative Care Society of Cape Breton. If you’d like to do something in his memory, we suggest going for a walk, giving yourself or your resources to a good cause, or getting your nickels together and playing a good game of Rummoli. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of McLellan Brothers Funeral Home, 3183 Plummer Ave, New Waterford, 902-862-7500.
