Bonnie Jewell Skaggs

Bonnie Jewell Skaggs, 82, of Colorado Springs, Colorado, entered her eternal heavenly home Sunday, July 18, 2021. Born Saturday January 14, 1939, in Indian Valley, Virginia, Bonnie was the youngest child of the late Isaac Crockett Higgs and Flora May (Burnette) Higgs. Devoted wife to Joseph Delaware Skaggs (deceased), a loving mother to Lisa, and Mema to Andrew, Karina and Mallorey. She had many adopted children and grandkids she loved dearly. Bonnie worked for Walgreens, Skaggs Drug Store, Osco Drug and Longs Drug Store. She was a bookkeeper, cosmetician, photo supervisor and frontend supervisor during her career in retail. She loved customer service and the hustle and bustle of the busy retail environment. She retired after 27 years of faithful service to take care of her grandchildren. Bonnie and Joseph were faithful members of their beloved church, Hilltop Baptist of Colorado Springs, Colorado, for almost 40 years. Bonnie was preceded in death by beloved husband: Joseph “Joe” “JD” Skaggs; parents, Isaac and Flora Higgs; siblings: Bernice Kontkanen, Goldie Dalton, Carlus Higgs, Essie Dayton, Roy Higgs, Estole Higgs, Laramie Sowers, Burlie Higgs, Delmar Higgs, Paul Higgs, and Saford Higgs. Bonnie is survived by her loving daughter, Lisa R. Skaggs (Mr. Jody F. McDaniels fiance) of Colorado Springs; sister, Pansy Lawson of Kodak, Tennessee; grandson, Andrew S. Hunt (IvaNelle Paulino wife) of Vancouver, Washington; granddaughters, Karina A. Hunt of Greeley, Colorado, and Mallorey R. Hunt of Colorado Springs; and many nieces, nephews and close friends that she cherished dearly. A Visitation will be held at 11:00am and a Funeral Service will follow at 12:00pm Friday, July 23, 2021, at Hilltop Baptist Church, 6915 Palmer Park Blvd, Colorado Springs, Colorado. Pastor Allen Knight and Pastor James Hagan will be officiating the services. In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for donations to Bonnie Skaggs Memorial Fund at GoFundMe. Other donations may be made at Bonnie’s request to Hilltop Baptist Church; Convoy of Hope P.O.
